Assignment: An available job, either paid or unpaid. Could be photo shoots, catwalk, fashion shows, promotional jobs, etc.

Auditions: A formal/informal meeting with potential client to showcase your talent for a particular role. Mostly open auditions, meaning quite a number of models are seen, so make sure you set yourself apart.

Booking: A confirmed assignment, either obtained through your model agency or by yourself.

Casting: A period (i.e. a day) allocated for models to show themselves/portfolio for potential work. Models with stronger character, portfolio or individuality always succeed so make the right impressions.

Commission: The rate your agency takes from your bookings; usually 20%. Your agency negotiates your rate for assignments with clients then pays you the balance after taking their commission.

Go Sees: Visit to potential clients for introduction or modelling auditions, usually organised by your agency. Could also be for sizing.

Model Booker: The designated individual at your agency who books you for jobs.

Model Zed Card/ Composite Card: Your montage of selected pictures and vital stats/details on a card either digital or printed. Your modelling business card.

Portfolio: Your professional modelling pictures. Either obtained from jobs you've done or in the case of new models, pictures you've commissioned a photographer to take. 1st impressions count, so make sure only professionally taken pictures by an experienced fashion photographer makes it in your portfolio.

Test Shoot: Unpaid (sometimes minimal payment) shoot to gain further experience in return for images.

TFP/TFCD: Time for print or CD. Unpaid shoot in return for images for your portfolio. No one gets paid, so control over what you get/do is usually limited to photographer or creative team.
